To accord with October's theme, "The Gift of Heritage", and respecting the upcoming "Indigenous People's Day," Joey Crutchfield, a member of the Monacan Indian Nation, will speak on the topic of “Connection.” The Monacan Indian Nation is a sovereign tribe descended from Siouan cultural and linguistic groups, and their ancestral territory includes Virginia west of the fall line, sections of southeastern West Virginia, and portions of northern North Carolina.
